PLANNING CAREERS

Local Planning
Responsible for small to medium-sized residential and commercial/industrial projects. Local planners support the SCE’s electrical distribution system by developing and designing plans, identifying necessary resources and providing cost estimates and options for the construction of distribution facilities. Whether it’s upgrading or installing new electrical service, or setting a new electric meter, this team has it covered.

New Development Planning
Responsible for design services and project management for a customer base of residential builders and developers within SCE’s service territory. This includes residential and commercial customers engaged in applicant design activities, transportation electrification, installation management services (cell carriers), mobile home park conversions, and large marijuana cultivation customers.

Technical Planning
Responsible for designing projects to support distribution infrastructure replacement, system growth, grid modernization, automation and underground conversion programs. These top gun planners design SCE’s most complex distribution systems across the service territory.

As a Planner Trainee you’ll receive hands-on training to develop and prepare estimates, work orders, drawings, construction plans, and bills of materials used at the planning stage of new engineering and construction projects. The program includes classroom and on-the-job training, mentoring and self-study. You’ll learn about a wide-range of topics including: electrical theory, distribution grid, circuit maps, rules and design standards … and more. Once you complete the program, you graduate as a full-fledged, bona fide Service Planner.
To qualify you need the following:One or more years of experience, training, or education in any of the following fields: Drafting, Mapping, Architecture, Construction, Engineering, or Electrical. Three or more years of customer service experience building relationships, identifying needs, and resolving issues. It’s also a very fast paced environment, so you need to be able to manage multiple projects at once. You must also have a valid U.S Driver License.
